Backpacking is usually the independent long distance travel which is interesting and also requires outdoor camping. However, backpacking in an entirely challenging climate is another excitement and thrilling experience.
There are some people to set out during bad weather for backpacking especially during rainy season.
Sometimes there wouldn’t be enough rain to satisfy those who expect the rain while hiking. In fact, backpacking with appropriate materials in the good weather is completely different from packing during unfriendly climatic conditions.
Fortunately, gears like waterproof backpacks are currently available for some of the people who always consider rain as an opponent in their backpacking game and strive to overcome it by their skills. Here are some backpacking techniques which are very much important to face the rainy weather during their hike.
Dresses are worn not only to show the elegance and standard of a person but also to protect you from the abnormal climatic conditions.
Not all the dresses are suitable for all climatic conditions. Cotton dresses are good for anyone when the sun shines with its peak energy, but they are not useful for rainy seasons.
As it is made up of cotton, they hold more water and become heavy, which makes the hiker carry extra weight. Dressing like layers of onion would be more helpful when compared to an ordinary clothing style.
Always make sure the outermost layer of your dress is completely waterproof bolstered with the breathability to allow sufficient air into the body. Inside the waterproof coat, there should be a hard shell jacket to keep your body away from the intense cold.
Remember to make sure that your hardshell jacket has pit zips to ventilate your body. Without pit zips, you would sweat a lot even during the rain.
Maps are the real eye of a traveler. Primitively, travelers had their maps drawn in a piece of leather which would effectively guide them to the exact venue. As technology has improved, we have the maps in three forms like paper overview maps, paper detailed maps, and digital maps on GPS unit.
Paper overview maps which are a very common form of maps available in the hands of a traveler provide the required details for the traveler. The paper detailed maps have still more details about the venue.
Finally, the digital maps are more recent maps which are acquired with the help of the GPS unit. Whatever type of the map, it would get drenched and become messy, even if you have a waterproof bag, it would be better to keep it inside a ziplock cover to prevent it from getting drenched.
3. The Right Trail
Even though you have a map for your backpacking, your path of travel is going to be like neither a paper nor a bed of roses. Some people would have gone for backpacking during summer and hence they would have created a trail for anyone to travel. Before you travel in that path, make sure whether that path is risk-free during bad weather. At elevated regions, the path would be clean and wide, so travelers would lead their travel on it.
However, when you come to a place where the landscape is little lowered, the trail would be completely immersed in the water and the hikers would have no way to go back and this would force the hikers to camp somewhere in the unsafe woods.
Therefore, it is always better to suggest a path which is safe to travel, regardless of the distance of the safer path.
People who get easily sick during the rainy season should not travel at such times as the possibility of getting sick would be very high due to the water stagnant everywhere. While you are on your hike, make sure that your health is fine.
If you think you would become fine as you walk, it would be a terrible opinion because hiking further would get you sick and tired soon. Such people would also be susceptible to water-borne diseases caused by both bacteria and virus.
Even a healthy person is recommended to carry adequate Best First Aid Kit For Quick-Response And Survival as unexpected conditions may occur to anyone who is backpacking. Always carry medicines for wounds, cuts, allergies, infections, fever, headache, body pain, ... and some of them should include paracetamol, ibuprofen, aspirin, antihistamines, bandages, plasters, etc.
Availability of such medicines would also provide you with additional confidence. An anti-insect lotion is one of such medicines which would be useful for someone who has been hiking outdoors.
6. Sleeping Bag
A sleeping bag is a lightweight bag made of a quilt which can be closed by means of a zipper and it has been used by various people who go for hiking, trekking, climbing, camping. A sleeping bag which is less heavy and highly compressible would be more helpful as it would not burden the hiker by providing excess weight. Sleeping bags are usually covered with an artificial fill or a natural fill. Artificial fill sleeping bags have high waterproofing capacity but they don’t compress enough large occupying area.
On the other hand, although the natural fills are not waterproof, they retain good heat and are easily compressible. The traveler should be wise to choose an appropriate sleeping bag to overcome stressful nights.
Tents are clothes which are remodeled to a shelter and are usually made up of materials like nylon, cotton, felt, and polyester. Cotton tents would be fine for the warm areas; nevertheless, in rainy seasons they become heavy and useless. Nylon and polyester are better than cotton, but their durability decreases based on the amount of their exposure to the UV light.
The best solution I recommend is polyurethane coating. Fixing a venue for your camp should be done carefully because it would create serious impact. Placing tents below a tree could be dangerous in rainy seasons. Even though trees serve as a natural barrier to the rain, wind, and sunshine, bad weather would break the branches of the tree which could crush you. I suggest a campsite with the support of the rock and check whether the site is higher than its surrounding to escape clogging of water. Some tents, especially military tents, are meant to be camouflaged and they are often khaki, green and brown.
However, for travelers, bright color tents would be more suitable because they can be seen easily from the air during emergency conditions.
The fire has been given primary importance by any traveler around the world. Once the fire has been ignited inside your tent, you would gain confidence and protection even when you are alone in the woods. It is the best weapon to fight any wild animal trying to get you. Creating a fireplace around you would give you more protection inside the jungle.
Moreover, cooking can also be done with the fire which you have built to keep yourself warm. Lighters can produce enough flame, but it is also good to have a flint. You should remember to bring waterproof matches and fire starter to overcome the rain.
